New Challenges
January 1, 2022
A new year, a new website, a new opportunity to create! I have been toying with writing a blog for a long time. The biggest block is what could I possibly have to say that would interest anyone?
For right now, I am going to use this blog to try to keep myself on track. I’ve listened to dozens of art podcasts over the past year, with interviews from some of the top artists and watercolor artists in the world. The pervasive theme is that practice is essential to becoming a better artist. As a full-time grant professional, I don’t have much time (or energy) during the week to paint. Or do I?
Many artists engage in art challenges. These are mostly social media driven, but they are a great way to keep creating. One podcast, “Learn to Paint,” is promoting a 20-20 challenge for January. 20 minutes a day for 20 days. Seems doable.
Another benefit of daily practice is that if you have a bad day, or bad painting, tomorrow is another opportunity to improve. So the challenge begins.
